Call for submissions

The Examined Life Journal opens its call for submissions on February 3rd!

Volume 12 was launched at the end of 2024. After a short break, we are looking forward to working on volume 13! Submissions will be accepted from February 3rd through April 13th.

The journal accepts poetry, nonfiction, and fiction that deepens and complicates our understanding of healthcare, healing, illness, the human body, and the human condition.

Every journal cycle has its own trends, themes, and common interests, be it COVID-19, reproductive rights, or navigating complex medical systems. As we start 2025, I wonder what you will be writing about. What stories will you share? How will you lift up your voice? Who will we advocate for? Will there be poems of protest, or anger, or hope? Will our medical students and learners witness healing, courage, disparity, or marginalization? How will medical care be accessed? Where will the gaps be and for whom? Will our understanding of each other deepen? Will we read of the balm of shared sorrow? What of victory, survival, endurance, and grace? Will you write of joy? Will you make us laugh? Will you imagine new worlds, new places?

Send it all. We can’t wait to read it!

Accepted submissions will be printed in volume 13 of The Examined Life Journal, anticipated to be released in October of 2025.
