The Examined Life Conference opens call for presentations

The featured event for 2013 will be the debut of an original play created and performed by Working Group Theatre entitled Broken Chord. We’re extremely excited about this event and we’ve been in conversations with Working Group since early last year planning our involvement and support of their work. Here’s a brief description of the play:
How do we remember? Why do we forget? When we can no longer pull from the well of memory that lies within us, how do we know who we are? Broken Chord is a new play that explores the uncertain terrain of Early Onset Alzheimer’s, from the point of view of the caregiver and the victim. The culmination of a year-long collaboration between Working Group Theatre and Hancher Auditorium, Broken Chord will weave together the personal stories of those working on the front lines of memory and aging research and patient care, as well as those who are suffering from memory-related diseases. In addition to this fantastic new work, we will also have featured presentations by writer/physician Chris Adrian (The Children’s Hospital), as well as Mark S. Bauer, MD, (A Mind Apart: Poems of Melancholy, Madness, and Addiction).
Special Note: because our featured event this year focuses on memory, we are particularly interested in creating a track of presentations that will focus on this topic throughout the conference. We’d love to see proposals on that subject matter, but of course we are accepting proposals on any topic as well. Please come join us. If you have any questions, we are here to answer them.
